This is what a connection of a coffee machine to the fixed water looks like

Permanent water connection: one less thing to worry about

There are two types available on the market: coffee machines with a water tank or those connected to the mains water supply. The problem is that you have to refill or replace a water tank manually on a regular basis. Staff tend to forget to do this – which isn’t exactly hygienic.

With a mains water connection, the machine is connected directly to the drinking water supply – simple and reliable.

We’ll analyse your situation and advise you on which option is best suited to your business.

What you’ll actually get out of it

Less effort: No need to empty water tanks or fill them manually – the time spent on maintenance is significantly reduced.

A steady supply of water is guaranteed: you won’t suddenly find that the tank is empty whilst 10 people are waiting for their coffee.

Limescale protection: Most machines with a fixed water connection have built-in filters. This protects against limescale build-up – which is important in areas with hard water.

Hygienic solution: No stale water. With a fixed water connection, fresh water is drawn from the tap for every cup.

When is it worth installing a permanent water connection?

The rule of thumb:

In our experience, a fixed water connection is worthwhile in the long term if you make 40 or more cups of coffee a day. From 80 cups a day onwards, the benefits are noticeable even in the short term – you save time and money.

We recommend the multiBona 3 as an entry-level model. For higher volumes and greater variety, the Barista Velluto is the better choice.

Important: Check the infrastructure

A permanent water connection requires a drinking water pipe to be located near the site. The supply pipes are of limited length – in most cases, you will need to set up your equipment a few metres away from the pipe.

Key questions to help you make your decision

In which sector is a water connection a good idea?

Whether in an office, retail premises, a catering establishment or an industrial setting: a fixed water connection for fully automatic coffee machines is a sensible choice wherever continuity, high throughput and efficiency are required in day-to-day operations. This solution is recommended for any operation serving 40 cups or more per day. It eliminates the need for constant manual refilling of the water tank, saving valuable working time and improving ease of use.

Do you need a waste water pipe as well?

Most coffee machines with a fixed water connection have a drip tray that needs to be emptied regularly. Some machines also simplify this step by connecting the waste water directly to the mains drainage via a pipe. This saves you even more time, as you don’t even have to empty the waste water tanks. This is a huge advantage, particularly for larger businesses. However, you must ensure that there is a drain leading to the mains drainage system nearby.

Our Barista Velluto or multiBona 3 can be connected to the mains drainage system.

Do you need a water filter as well as a permanent water connection?

A water filter is essential for smooth operation and the perfect coffee flavour. Even though tap water in Germany is strictly monitored, a professional filter protects your fully automatic coffee machine from limescale build-up (limescale protection), which can lead to technical faults and increased energy consumption. It also filters out substances that affect the taste, such as chlorine or suspended particles, from the mains supply, thus guaranteeing consistently high water quality for the best possible coffee flavour.

For this reason, we adhere to a strict quality standard: regardless of whether the machine is connected to the mains water supply or uses a water tank – our fully automatic coffee machines are always fitted with a water filter as standard.

Is it possible to have a permanent water connection fitted retrospectively?

In principle, some machines can be converted from a tank system to a mains water system. This is usually more cost-effective than purchasing a new machine. However, our service engineers must first check on a case-by-case basis whether your machine is one of these. At the same time, they will check whether there is a water supply close enough to the machine.

You can retrofit Kaffee Partner’s fully automatic coffee machines with a mains water connection at any time, provided there is a drinking water supply pipe near the installation site.

Does Kaffee Partner also offer a water tank as an alternative?

Yes, at Kaffee Partner it is also possible to operate fully automatic coffee machines with a water tank. There are some locations where it is not possible to connect to the mains water supply. When combined with a pump-and-tank system with a capacity of 15 litres and a base cabinet, the fully automatic machine can be placed anywhere. The tank is placed in the base cabinet, where it is protected from sunlight and unauthorised access. This reduces the build-up of algae and impurities. Nevertheless, it is still important to change the water every day!
